What a delight and honor it was to see images of my sketchbook in the same compilation as designers whose work I’ve admired for years (or decades!). It’s a lovely- and hefty!-350-page book filled with more than 800 images of typographic sketchbooks from designers all over the world. Then, last week, this book arrived in the mail! Freehand: New Typography Sketchbooks by Steven Heller and Lita Talarico promises readers they will be able to “page through the personal sketchbooks of the most influential and inventive illustrators and typographers working today.”

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if anything ever came of the project.

After submitting the images and answering a few questions about materials and process, I didn’t hear a word.

It was an honor to share images, but also a bit scary as I’ve never shown my sketchbook to anyone before. I loved how he didn’t ask whether I had a type sketchbook, rather he assumed I did.
